September 2013− PLAINFIELD, NJ
The Back to School Health Fair being held tomorrow from 12-5 p.m. outside BUF’s offices located at 403 West 7th Street in Plainfield, NJ promises to be an exciting and educational event, with parents, children and several elected officials from all over the city expected to attend.

The free event, which BUF Health & Human Services hosting jointly with Horizon NJ Health and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, will feature Horizon’s Care-A-Van, a mobile medical unit staffed by community nurses that will be providing blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings to adults 19 and older.

In addition, Horizon staff will be on hand, teaching people of all ages to lead a healthier lifestyle by eating right and finding fun ways to exercise. Horizon’s Dancing for Your Health® program, which advocates the use of dance as a fun and free way to exercise, has been nationally recognized for its efforts, and the Horizon staff will be teaching participants the “Horizon Slide.”

Horizon’s mascot, “NJ,” is also scheduled to appear. NJ is an avid dancer, and has a unique way of reaching out to kids and teaching them ways to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Horizon’s team of health educators will also be present, offering various programs designed to improve health outcomes. Topics to be covered include: asthma, diabetes, nutrition and childhood obesity, cancer screenings and prevention, dental health, and lead poisoning prevention. There will also be a skin analysis machine on the premises to show community members their risk of developing skin cancer and to emphasize the importance of protecting oneself from the sun’s rays.

“We are committed and in tune with the needs of the community we service,” said Ms. Clark, BUF Health & Human Services Director. “We believe that educating our community members about their health and ways to improve it is an important step towards bettering the quality of life in our neighborhoods.”

BUF Health and Human Services (BUF) goal is to support children in their active explorations and to help them to become self-confident, independent and inquisitive learners. Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since April 2004, BUF provides an environment rich in materials to explore and learn.
